In Pittsburgh this week the ginkgo timber (Ginkgo biloba) started to drop their leaves. I discovered a cheerful yellow carpet beneath grey skies on Wednesday.

Different timber lose their leaves step by step or within the wind, however ginkgos can drop them unexpectedly on a single day of calm climate. I attempted to seize the “snowing” leaves on this 2017 video. Not very many.
@MyDailyNature does a greater job of displaying them fall together with sluggish movement.
Get out quickly to look at the ginkgos earlier than the leaves are gone.
p.s. Do you know that gingkos reside fossils? Right here’s extra:
Native to East Asia, Ginkgo biloba is the final residing species within the order Ginkgoales, which first appeared over 290 million years in the past. Fossils similar to the residing species, belonging to the genus Ginkgo, prolong again to the Center Jurassic epoch roughly 170 million years in the past. The tree was cultivated early in human historical past and stays generally planted, and is broadly considered a residing fossil.
