Since late October visiting crows have been pouring into city to affix Pittsburgh’s monumental winter crow flock. Their numbers in Shadyside and Oakland grew from 3,600 in mid-October to over 8,000 in mid-November … after which I misplaced monitor of them as a result of they moved the roost and altered their flight path.
Alas! The flock continues to be rising — maybe to twenty,000! — and simply three weeks any longer Sat. 28 December would be the annual Pittsburgh Christmas Chook Depend (CBC) after we’ll affirm the variety of crows that come to city for the winter. If we are able to discover them.
I had hopes final Saturday 30 November when Betty Rowland noticed an enormous flock staging at Schenley Park’s golf course, picture above. However when Betty checked once more on Monday the crows had been utterly gone.
Our winter crows change or cut up their roost usually in late December as a result of they put on out their welcome so shortly. (See examples right here.) So the place are they now?
