For practically 30 years ultralights have been used to determine secure migration routes for endangered geese and cranes as they’re reintroduced to the wild.
In 1993 ultralight pioneer Invoice Lishman, together with Joe Duff, carried out the primary ever human-led chook migration by guiding a small flock of younger Canada geese from Ontario to Virginia. His experiment proved that younger geese imprinted on an ultralight will observe the plane and study the migration route. After main the birds simply as soon as, in a single course, the geese knew the route and returned on their very own within the spring.
Christian “Birdman” Moullec was the primary to do it in Europe when he guided lesser white-fronted geese (Anser erythropus) from their future breeding grounds in Sweden to new wintering grounds in Germany in 1999. He has since led red-breasted geese (Branta ruficollis) and lots of different species.

These days, to lift cash for his conservation efforts, Christian Moullec presents vacationers ultralight flights with the birds.
Study what it’s prefer to take one in every of his flights in: A Man, a Tiny Plane, and a Flock of Geese: Flying Amongst Birds in France. See the magic on this video from Nationwide Geographic.
