Avian flu infects business turkey flock in Iowa

A brand new case of extremely pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed in a flock of business turkeys in Cherokee County, Iowa.

The case was introduced by the Iowa Division of Agriculture & Land Stewardship (IDALS) on June 2.

The variety of turkeys affected has not but been disclosed.

Previous to this HPAI detection, Iowa had solely had one flock affected by the virus in 2024, in line with the US Division of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Well being Inspection Service (APHIS). That was a flock of 4,287,400 business laying hens in Sioux County, with that case being confirmed on Might 28.
