On 15 March 2022, alongside a path by the riparian woodland within the Billy Frank Jr Nationwide Wildlife Refuge, Erika and I photographed a Mourning Dove gathering sticks. We see this species typically sufficient in Olympia, however this dove doesn’t appear as frequent as elsewhere within the nation. Mourning Dove nests are notoriously poorly constructed—often only a bunch to sticks piled collectively in a tree or bush. The twigs this particular person collected appeared remarkably skinny, maybe to line the inside of the nest.
