Extra Minnesota turkeys struck by avian influenza


Extremely pathogenic avian influenza was confirmed in a business meat turkey flock in Stearns County on June 13.

The case was reported by the US Division of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Well being Inspection Service (APHIS).

With this newest detection, Minnesota has now had 11 business poultry flocks affected by HPAI in 2024. Previous to this, the final premises within the state was affected on June 12 in Lyon County.

Different counties to have constructive detections embody Meeker, Morrison, Lyon and Dodge.

Thus far, all HPAI circumstances in Minnesota have been of the H5N1 serotype.

Because the starting of the 2022-24 HPAI outbreak, no state has had extra flocks affected that Minnesota. In 2022, there had been 81 flock infections and in 2023 there have been 34.
