12 September 2024: Day 6, Tarifa and birding on the Strait of Gibraltar, WINGS Spain in Autumn. Click on right here to see (usually) the place I’m at this time.

At U.S. hawk watches we observe vultures, hawks, eagles, falcons and kites however hardly ever document different species on the official HawkCount.org. That’s not the case at Tarifa the place fall migration features a whole of 150,000 white storks (Ciconia ciconia) + black storks (Ciconia nigra).

This brief video is the sluggish movement passage of 4 raptors. I’m not positive of the primary one however the others are two booted eagles (Hieraaetus pennatus) and an Egyptian vulture (Neophron percnopterus).

Watch as big numbers of hovering birds wait to cross the Strait. Discover the sound observe! It’s WINDY!

Birding on the Strait is greater than watching hawks.

p.s. We had an amazing morning on 10 September at Algarrobo hawk watch with hundreds of hawks and eagles plus alpine & widespread swifts, 4 black storks, and 22 European bee-eaters.
