Yesterday was a giant day for the Pitt peregrine chicks. The smaller chick made two new strikes: He jumped up on the inexperienced perch and he snatched prey from his mom. Right this moment will probably be even greater. It’s Banding Day! The occasion is closed to the general public (the room has a really strict occupancy restrict!) however you’ll see the beginning and finish on the falconcam.
Huge Strikes Yesterday: Inexperienced perch & Meals snatch
Each massive strikes are proven on this video of snapshots.
Right here’s a a more in-depth take a look at the snatching episode as seen on the streaming cam: Carla was about to kill and pluck a chimney swift when the male chick snatched it. Chaos ensued! When Carla couldn’t retrieve it she shouted to Ecco whereas the opposite chick begged loudly.
Banding Day Right this moment:
You’ll know when Lead Bander Patti Barber of the Pennsylvania Sport Fee goes out on the ledge to retrieve the chicks since you’ll hear Carla and Ecco shouting and the children will huddle in the back of the field.
When the chicks are introduced indoors they are going to obtain well being checks and leg bands and be returned to the nest in lower than half an hour.
Keep tuned later as we speak for banding pictures and an replace on the occasion.
