Japan will import 17,810 metric tons of feed-quality wheat, and 220 tons of barley for livestock use, through a simultaneous purchase and promote (SBS) public sale that closed late on Wednesday, Reuters reported, citing the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) on Wednesday.

The ministry had sought 65,000 metric tons of feed wheat and 25,000 tons of feed barley to be loaded by October 31 and arrive in Japan by December 19.

Japan buys and sells its feed wheat and barley through so-called SBS auctions, during which finish customers and importers specify the origin, value and amount of grain, permitting millers to fulfill their diversified wants for the feed grain.
