Minnesota breeder toms struck by avian influenza


Minnesota’s 18th industrial poultry flock to be affected by extremely pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in 2024 concerned 4,300 industrial turkey breeder toms, reported the USA Division of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Well being Inspection Service (APHIS).

The affected flock is in Kandiyohi County and the presence of HPAI was confirmed on July 9.

On that very same day, two different industrial poultry flocks have been affected by HPAI. APHIS earlier reported {that a} industrial turkey breeder hen flock in Kandiyohi County and one other industrial turkey breeder hen flock in Renville County had examined constructive, respectively involving 21,900 and 15,400 hens.

Along with Kandiyohi and Renville, the next counties have had confirmed circumstances of HPAI in 2024: Otter Tail, Swift, Pipestone, Stearns, Lyon, Meeker, Morrison and Dodge.

No state has had extra flocks struck by HPAI through the 2022-24 outbreak. In 2022, virus appeared in 81 flocks, and in 2023, it appeared in 34 flocks.
