Somebody in my neighborhood planted frequent sunflower (Helianthus annuus) on the strip of land between the sidewalk and the road. This month it droops over the sidewalk, so tall that I barely must duck to take this closeup of yellow with a golden forged. Do you know this meals plant is native to the Americas?
This woodland sunflower (Helianthus divaricatus), in a sunnier shade of yellow, was recognized on the Botanical Society stroll final Sunday on the 9 Mile Run Path. The facet of the flower is displayed as a result of the bracts on the again and the bud are necessary. Click on on the picture to see a entrance view of the flower.

This very yellow “pale jewelweed” (Impatiens pallida) is a rarity in Schenley Park. Deer have eaten all the opposite jewelweed but this patch thrives. Why? The clue is in center of this ugly picture.

Do you see the prickly department of wineberry draped over the jewelweed plant? The whole patch is protected by this invasive thorny plant. The deer can’t method. (Wineberry stems are circled in purple beneath.)

And a Purple Host:
I don’t bear in mind the precise species of tick trefoil seen on the Botanical Society stroll however a butterfly confirmed the plant is prospering.

Tick trefoil is the host plant for the silver noticed skipper. This one was sipping on an moist deserted shirt close by its host.
