Freshwater mussels are the unsung heroes of our waterways. They hold the water clear for fish and the aquatic bugs they feed on and, as a result of they filter water by way of their our bodies, they’re the primary to die when the water turns into polluted.
Look how briskly they clear the water!
If a freshwater stream doesn’t have mussels it’s laborious for native fish to outlive. That’s why the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Fee transformed the fish hatchery at Union Metropolis right into a mussel propagation middle and are restocking mussels in our creeks.
