On our WINGS Spain in Autumn birding tour we visited Parque Pure de Los Alcornocales on 13 September to see the birds and habitats of the cork tree forest. Spain’s Pure Parks enable grazing so we frequently noticed cattle however once we stopped at Mirador Puerto de Ojén (Ojén Go viewpoint) we discovered a donkey, a number of sheep and a chestnut horse.
It was sizzling. Many of the animals huddled within the shade solid by the Pure Park signal. Those that couldn’t match their our bodies into that crowded spot hung their heads in it. However the chestnut horse stoically stood within the solar. One sheep lay beneath it.
As we walked round scanning the sky for birds, the sign-shade sheep walked over to the horse and tried to suit into its shadow. There was solely sufficient shade for his or her heads.
The Shade Horse walked away and the additional sheep have been out of luck. The companion sheep moved with the horse, consistently in his shadow. “We’re going to eat?” requested the sheep. “Positive. There’s one thing right here in your shadow.”
Did the horse really feel used? Or did he recognize his buddy? No matter works to remain cool.
p.s. The donkey was very pleasant, extra thinking about us than the shade.
