Final week was so full of stories, from peregrines to floods, that I needed to skip my typical “Seen This Week” report. In the meantime Spring isn’t holding nonetheless. Wildflowers are blooming and the early ones have already gone to seed. Right here’s a collection of my finest images from final week, April 8-11.

Above and under, three images from Frick Park. All of those are alien and a few are invasive however they’re fairly.

  • Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara), at high, is present in disturbed soil.
  • Speedwell’s (Veronica persica) tiny flowers bloom in fields and lawns. A dewdrop dangled above this one from a blade of grass.
  • Lesser Celandine (Ficaria verna) is considerable alongside creeks and river banks together with Duck Hole and 9 Mile Run. Very invasive, however fairly, which is why it was imported as a backyard plant.

Final Thursday I visited Barking Slopes for simply an hour earlier than the rain chased me away. Regardless that I didn’t have a lot time I noticed not less than 15 species in bloom together with:
